Croatia has a long-standing tradition of concrete construction, celebrating an entire century of structural concrete. It was already in 1900 that the first reinforced concrete structure was built in the region. Over the next hundred years, many striking examples of fine engineering in concrete followed, including the construction of numerous bridges and buildings of various purposes.

This paper contains only a selection of some of the most impressive or challenging concrete structures built in Croatia, with emphasis on contemporary projects. Great achievements in bridge engineering in Croatia have been made over the last several years, many of them related to the extension of the national motorway network.

On the other hand, fast-growing cities and industrial development have led to an increase in the construction of buildings and industrial plants, many of them in concrete. In the course of these extensive projects, numerous bridges and buildings of different structural types have been competently designed and skillfully constructed, often under very tight deadlines.
