In today’s world, concrete is by far the most important construction material. It is used in all regions of the globe and, in one way or another, in almost every structure that is built. However, what we ask concrete to do is not static. The industry is constantly setting new and increasing demands for cheaper, faster, and more efficient ways of using concrete.

Furthermore, we see an ever-increasing desire to create more daring and soaring structures. These ambitions generate new demands regarding how we calculate and design concrete structures that lean, twist, reach, or soar into the sky.

fib Symposia and Congresses are important opportunities for professionals in the concrete industry worldwide to gain new ideas and knowledge, and to discuss and debate the latest innovations, concepts, and techniques.

In your hands, you are holding the proceedings of the fib Symposium 2015 – Concrete Innovation and Design. We have strived to collect the latest state-of-the-art knowledge on concrete in almost all aspects of its use. More than 200 authors have presented their latest work or their finest projects. It is an impressive collection of innovation and design, and we are very grateful that so many authors have chosen to share their ideas and work.

The book contains the abstracts of all papers presented at the Symposium. The full papers and presentations have been made available on the USB provided to all participants.

Bringing all this together and reviewing all the work required a substantial effort by the entire Scientific Committee. More than 40 reviewers from around the globe have worked together to make these proceedings possible, and we sincerely thank them for their dedication and hard work.
