There is no doubt that the greatest challenge for humankind in the 21st century is finding ways to address environmental problems. There is no longer any reason for the construction sector to remain exempt from efforts to resolve global environmental issues; every form of human activity has environmental impacts, and construction is no exception.

This paper reviews the environmental aspects of concrete and the current status of CO₂ emissions, and presents scenarios for CO₂ reduction. It also discusses several cases of advanced technologies as tools for considering the future direction of innovative technical development aimed at reducing environmental impacts.
