he subject chosen for the symposium has significant applications, with varying design and construction approaches in many countries. However, it is not very widely practiced in some European countries and elsewhere. This may be one reason—along with its relatively infrequent advanced application and the prospect of traveling to India to present a paper—that overall participation in terms of paper submissions was limited.
Following the preliminary call for papers circulated through our leaflet in October 2003, and despite wide distribution (approximately 8,000 copies), only 40 abstracts were initially received. Subsequently, through continued contact with relevant contributors, an additional 65 abstracts were obtained. After evaluation by experts, 96 abstracts were deemed suitable for development into full papers. The authors were invited to submit their complete manuscripts, and ultimately a total of 88 papers were received.
