On behalf of the Organising and Scientific Committees and the host institution, the Norwegian Concrete Association, we are pleased to present the papers of the 6th fib Congress, held in Oslo, Norway, from 12 to 16 June 2022.

The main theme of the Congress was Innovation for Sustainability. We invited papers covering all aspects of concrete structures that present innovative solutions demonstrating how the concrete industry contributes to meeting future sustainability challenges, including circular economy principles and building information modelling (BIM). The papers are organised into the following sub-topics: concrete and concrete materials, construction methods, structural design and performance, service life, innovative case studies, and trend-setting projects.

The Congress was strongly driven by the need for innovation to meet ambitious global sustainability goals, such as energy saving, reduced CO₂ emissions, efficient use of resources, cost-effective construction, and improved performance. These objectives are also reflected in the Congress logo, which depicts the Svalbard Global Seed Vault—constructed in concrete—and two fib-awarded Norwegian concrete structures that blend harmoniously with the landscape, inviting exploration of nature without harming it.

All links in the construction value chain are essential to finding the best solutions, and the Congress serves as an excellent forum in this respect, enabling participants to share knowledge and learn about sustainable developments in the field of concrete structures.
