On behalf of the Organising and Scientific Committees, and the partner organisations, it is with great pleasure that we publish these proceedings of scientific papers presented at the 1st fib Italy YMG Symposium on Concrete and Concrete Structures, held on 15 October 2019 in Parma, Italy.

This first edition of the Symposium was organised by the national association fib Italy Young Members Group (YMG). The Symposium is conceived as an opportunity to give visibility to the research work of young engineers and to create an open forum for discussion on the most recent advances in the field of concrete structures. The broad theme of the Symposium, “Concrete and Concrete Structures”, is dedicated to young researchers and practitioners engaged in the challenging field of reinforced concrete engineering.

The Symposium brought together more than 50 young engineers and researchers from Italy and several other countries, including the United Kingdom, Turkey, Ukraine, and South Africa. The collected papers were presented in two parallel sessions over the course of the day, covering a variety of topics related to structural assessment and strengthening of existing structures, bridges, and cementitious composites for repair and strengthening applications. At the end of the Symposium, the three best presentations were awarded the “fib Italy YMG Award for Best Research Advances in Concrete and Concrete Structures”.

All papers included in these proceedings were peer reviewed by the Scientific Committee, comprising a select group of experts and leading researchers in their respective fields. Their contribution and effort are greatly appreciated and gratefully acknowledged.

I am sincerely grateful to the authors of all papers for their interesting and innovative contributions.

On behalf of the Organising and Scientific Committees, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this first edition of the Symposium.
