N°182. 1989. Durable Concrete Structures - CEB Design Guide, Second Edition.
Th is "CEB-Design Guide to Durable Concrete Structures" is prepared by the General Task Group No .20, "Durability and Service Life of Concrete Structures".
The Guide is a synthesis of four previous works by the Group :
- "State-o f-the-Art Report", presented 1982 as GEB-Bulletin 148
- The International Workshop on the same topic, organized in Copenhagen 1983 in a valuable cooperation with RILEM . The Workshop Report is available as CEB-Bulletin No .152
- The "Draft CEB-Guide· to Durable Conc ete Structures", CEB-Bulletin 166-1985
- The Second International Workshop organized in cooperation with RILEM in Bologna, 1986 , CEB-Bulletin No .183
Valuable comments have been received on the Draft CEB-Guide , Bulletin 166. These comments carne from technical organizations, national de legations and from individuals. The Task Group ha s considered in detail all comments and proposals received, and the result has been incorporated in this Design Guide.
The Guide is intended for practicing engineers rather than materials specialists. It has been at tempted to present simplified mode ls of degradation mechanisms and influencing factors . However, these mode ls are believed to be consistant with present day knowledge of the very complicated physico-chemical mechanisms determining the intensity of degrading actions and resulting deterioration mechani sms in concrete structures.
The members of the Task Group are all to be cordially thanked for their many valuable contributions during the making of th is Guide, and for their continuous enthusiasm, which has been of mutual inspiration for the work.
