N° 144.1984. CEB-FIP Design Manual Application of the CEB-FIP Model Code 1978 for Concrete Structures
The implementation of regulatory documents should be preceded by trial calculations which ailow to check the validity and correctness of the prescribed clauses. This procedure was followed when drafting the CEB-FIP Model Code for Concrete Structures, edited in May 1978, and it gave rise to several reports (Bulletins d'Information 119 and 129, August 1977 and October 1978, respectively).
These trial calculations, which correspond to a huge amount of work, were carried out by a steering cornmittee forrned by mernbers from more than 15 countries and chaired by Mr. M. Miehlbradt.
To give guidance to designers on the proper use of the Model Code, a Task Group was created, also chaired by Mr. M. Miehlbradt. This Task Group should benefit from the work of the Steering Committee on Trial Calculations and give continuity to it.
The result of the work of the Task Group is presented in this Design Manual. It includes a large number of exarnples which cover most of the chapters of the Model Code. The systematic and clear way of presenting the examples deserves a special reference.
It is my privilege to thank all those who contributed to the preparation of this Design Manual. I particularly wish to rnention Mr. Miehlbradt and his co-workers and Professor Franco Levi, honorary president of the CEB, who carefully followed the preparation of the Manual. The willingness to carry out such a difficult and tirne-consuming task can only be due to a deep feeling of modern ethics which justif ies and irnposes wide international cooperation for the benefit of mankind.
