N° 133.1980. Seismic Design of Concrete Structures - Preliminary Draft of an Appendix to the CEB-FIP Model Code
This document sets down minimum design requirements to be met when dealing with seismic situations, that is, situations in which the earth quake action is considered as the leading action in conjunction with other permanent or variable actions .
The use of the structure (ex: office , storage , parcking, etc.) and its climatic environment (ex: temperature , snow , etc .) dictate the number and the intensity of the other actions that must be accounted for concurrently with the earthquake action.
The document is issued with reference to reinforced and prestressed concrete buildings for normal use, having structural resisting systems as described in Chapter S.3.
This recormnendation is principally intended for new constructions ; however , it contains also (Sect. 11.11) some general criteria that shal be of guidance for the repair and /or strengthening of exist ing structures provided these latter fall into the structural types covered by the code .
For structures having special characteristics, from the point of view of their func tion and/or their structural type (ex . po tential ly dangerous industrial installations, bridges, dams, water towers, etc.) this standard must be complemented with adhoc requirements and provisions.
The present text of the code conforms to the level, partial coefficients, format of FIP-CEB Model Code for Concrete Structures , Vol . II , with the direct purpose of extending its application to the seismic design situation.
Its basic concepts, however, are expressed in the same general term as required for more advanced reatments ofreliability (leve ls II , III), so as to allow, with a future implementation, a straight forward application of these methods to the seismic design situation .
