These recommendations provide a guide to the planning, installation, testing, and monitoring of permanent and temporary ground anchorages, normally bonded to the ground by cement grout. They are valid for all types of grout-injection anchorages transmitting forces through the ground.

The design and planning of ground anchorages require experience and knowledge in this specialised field, and the installation phase requires skilled and qualified labour. No recommendations can replace the know-how of specialist personnel and the expertise of contractors.

Please note that italicised text indicates commentary, as distinct from recommendations, by the Working Group.

These recommendations do not deal with the overall design of anchored structures or excavated faces. The design of individual ground anchorages, however, is covered in Chapter 5.
