1989. Prestressed concrete: safety precautions in post-tensioning
The Commission on Practical Construction decided that its Working Group on Safety in Concrete Construction, chaired by Mr. Å. Lindblad of Sweden, should prepare a Guide to Good Practice dealing with safety precautions in post-tensioning.
Carrying out post-tensioning and grouting operations is not dangerous, provided that the required care is taken in planning, site preparation, and execution.
However, it is also a fact that accidents have occurred in the past. The reasons for such incidents are ignorance (lack of training and supervision), lack of foresight (insufficient planning and preparation), and overfamiliarity.
I hope that this report will help to make the parties involved aware of their responsibility to ensure sufficiently safe working conditions, thereby reducing the number of accidents.
I wish to express my thanks to the Chairman and members of the Working Group for preparing this useful guide.
