1982. Recommendations for the design and construction of prestressed concrete ground anchors. (PDF)
These recommendations have been prepared by a Working Party of the Commission on Practical Construction over the last four years. They replace Chapter R4: Ground Anchors of FIP Guides to Good Practice (FIP/2/1), published in September 1975.
The reasons for undertaking this work can be summarised as follows: the first FIP recommendations on ground anchors were prepared at a time when very few national standards existed and there was little agreement between them, which led to rather general recommendations. Since their publication, much more work has been carried out in this field and international experience and practice have converged. Prestressed ground anchors have become far more acceptable worldwide, and numerous interesting applications have been reported.
In view of these facts, the Commission on Practical Construction decided to form a new Working Party, which began its work in 1979. This document was approved by the Working Party and subsequently circulated for final comment among the FIP Administrative Council. It is the hope of the Working Party, whose members came from various continents, that these recommendations will be favourably received by all parties involved.
The Chairman wishes to thank all the very active members of the Working Party for their constructive contributions in both writing and discussion.
