When GIG 19 started its work in 1984, the following terms of reference were established:

  1. Scheme for the application of available diagnostic methods and their interpretation for the assessment of the performance of concrete structures and their remaining structural life.
  2. Procedures and criteria for the above-mentioned assessments; this second term of reference was to be developed in more detail in collaboration with Commission I (Reliability) and Commission II (Redistribution).
