N°190. 1988. CEB-FIP Model Code 1990 - First Predraft - Vol. 2
During the last CMC90 meeting (Lausanne, 4-5 July 1988) the following decisions were taken regarding Chapter 6. 1 -6.6:
1.- Beams, columns and slabs under mainly axial loads are to be dimensioned in a traditional way, taking into account appropriate stress distribution schemes (e.g. parabol a-rectangular etc.) . The strain limitations under ULS are still under discussion. Simplifications of rectangular stress blocks are allowed.
2.- The decrease of concrete compressive strength under the essentially biaxial conditions should be introduced in a rational way, first describing the highly complicated physical realities behind the related phenomena (with appropriate figures etc.) , and then admitting that for each case a range of reduction values might be needed, rather than one specific value. Clear criteria should be given to the designer for the distribution of the cracking case expected each time.
Backing evidence for the empirical figures selected will be given in details. However, the whole approach is not yet considered as scientifically solved.
The presentation of Ch.6. 1-6.6 in this Bulletin is based on the drafts of Dr Regan dated March 88 and June 88. However, a rearrangement of presentation and notations has been carried out by the Secretariat of CMC90, except of Ch.6. 1 (requirements) and §6.4. 1 (axial actions on linear elements) which, as agreed in CMC90 (Lausanne,
4 July) , have been taken for the moment directly from Dr Regan's June 1988 draft.
